The Pink Pepper Factory

The pepper factory doesn't look like a factory so much as a series of sheds piece together with what materials are available locally, and stacked high with sacks full of pink pepper corns.

I received an image of this factory from my love who was visiting the operation while I was creating this piece.

Pink pepper is an invasive species that grows abundantly in Zululand. It’s an intensely demanding labour to pick these peppercorns, but many hands without occupation abound in the area.
It’s one of those rare cases where there is labour looking for work, an invasive species that need to be worked and just the right parties involved to manage these people, this land and the market for it. One man’s fat and others lean.

And so this Factory, these sacks, and the hands that pick them represent Hope.

The sense of wholeness, a cycle working perfectly in tune. This is the energy that I feel embodied in this work, and shared by mine: A wholeness which creates a resonance that both comforts and radiates. Just enough order to hold it together and creating enough freedom to let it all go.
