Stratum is a series woven by hand on my beautiful old floor loom, from locally grown cotton and fabric remnants sourced from local fashion designers.

I sort and strip the waste cloth into new yarn, then place each strand into the loom by hand, compressing layer upon layer. It is slow, and the slowness is the point. It leaves room to think about how our desires and actions become part of the material world, and in time perhaps the earth we walk on.

The accumulation begins to echo geological process, where layers build, compress and reform. The tapestries move between human and geological timescales. I find the care and attention grounding, a way to tune into rhythms that are never in a hurry.
